Reduce notification noise without missing what matters

Cut down everyday interruptions, keep useful alerts, and make your phone quieter without switching everything off.

1. Turn off notification categories you never need

Open an app's Android notification settings and disable promotional, recommendation, background-status or other unnecessary categories. This reduces noise permanently instead of hiding it behind DND.

2. Use Digital Wellbeing for digital-detox goals

If the real problem is excessive screen time, habitual app opening or difficulty focusing, use Android Digital Wellbeing, app timers, Focus Mode and Bedtime Mode. DND Override does not block apps, enforce limits, turn the screen grayscale or measure usage.

3. Use DND or a custom Mode for quiet periods

Android can schedule quiet periods and allow selected people, conversations, apps, alarms and other interruptions. Configure these native filters before installing another utility.

4. Narrow noisy app exceptions

If an app is important but only some of its notifications deserve sound, inspect its notification channels. A dedicated category is preferable. When the app does not provide one, DND Override can potentially match the app and visible notification text on-device and play a selected sound during DND.

5. Review the setup regularly

Remove obsolete rules, test important paths, and revisit app categories after updates. Notification text can change, and broad keyword rules can create false matches. Fewer, more specific rules are easier to trust.

Use the right tool: Digital Wellbeing helps reduce device use; notification channels reduce unwanted categories; DND creates quiet periods; DND Override adds narrow audible exceptions based on posted app/text.

Next: keep the phone quiet except for important notifications or review Android notification rule types.
