Configure nighttime quiet hours
Android's Bedtime Mode, Modes and Do Not Disturb can run on a schedule. Choose whether calls, messages, selected people, repeat callers, priority conversations, alarms, calendar events or selected apps may interrupt. If that covers the need, no additional app is required.
Avoid unnecessary whole-app exceptions
Allowing an entire camera, messaging, email or monitoring app can produce unwanted sounds overnight. First check whether the source app has a dedicated urgent notification category. If it does not, an app-and-text rule may be narrower.
Examples of text-specific nighttime rules
- A monitoring app plus a high-severity label.
- A camera app plus “person detected.”
- A work app plus an agreed escalation phrase.
- A messaging app plus a rare family urgency phrase.
These examples describe generic Android notification matching, not direct integrations. The source app must deliver the notification and include usable visible text.
Test the complete path
Run the test during the actual scheduled mode with the screen locked. Confirm notification access, source-app delivery, alarm-stream volume and battery/background settings. Re-test after OS or source-app updates because notification wording and categories can change.
